Keira Knightley claims most of the women she auditions against are far smaller and skinnier than she is (as if that's remotely possible). The Pirates of the Caribbean star says, "Weight is a big issue in Hollywood because I'm twice the size, height and everything else, of most of the girls who are going in to see the director for a part. When you realize that I am, at my size, one of the largest actresses there, you start to think, 'I don't think it'd be healthy for me to stay here much longer.'"
Actress Keira Knightley took a shot at celebs like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan for flashing their private assets. The British actress says she is sickened by celebrities who expose themselves to photographers, and claims their actions make them "s**ttier than everybody else." The Atonement actress insists that she has too much class to follow their lead. "I'm not going to get blind drunk and them stumble out and fall over and puke up in front of people. I'm not saying I don't do that in private, but I try not to," Knightley said at the Venice film fest. "The whole celebrity thing is not magic. They're real people proving they're s**ttier than everybody else because they don't even wear knickers."
Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley are among those expected to hit the red carpet at this year's Venice Film Festival, which kicks off today. Some 15 films from the U.S. and seven from the U.K. are among the 57 features screening at the fest, which opens with Atonement, starring Knightley. Among the U.S. films in competition: Michael Clayton starring George Clooney, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford with Pitt, and Todd Haynes's I'm Not There, the Bob Dylan biopic where Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett all take turns playing the folk rocker at different stages of his life. Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited starring Owen Wilson and Adrien Brody is also on the list. Wilson was originally expected to appear at the film's Venice premiere on September 3.
Keira Knightley is still bewildered by the widespread interest in her looks. "Somebody goes, 'Gosh, you're pretty,'" Knightley told Radio Times. "Thanks. I've got good genes!... Okay, I'm on the cover of a magazine but somebody else does the hair, and the makeup, and airbrushes the f**k out of me - it's not me, it's something other people have created." Knightley says she can't comprehend people's fascination with wanting to be famous. "It frightens me when kids go, 'I want to be famous,'" she says. "Why? Because you can get into a restaurant? You know what? If you book [a table], you can get into a restaurant! 'I want to be rich and famous.' Go and work on the stock market." Of successfully suing a British paper over accusations she was anorexic, Knightley says, "You couldn't say anything more horrendous. So yes, I did take a hard line, and I would take that line again."
Keira Knightley won a libel case against British newspaper the Daily Mail yesterday. The tabloid ran a story of the Pirates of the Caribbean star in a bikini with the heading, "If Pictures Like This One of Keira Carried a Health Warning, My Darling Daughter Might Have Lived." Knightley's lawyer said his client had been embarrassed by the "entirely false" and "deeply offensive" suggestion that she was in any way responsible for the tragic death of a 19-year-old anorexic, as the headline implied. "The claimant is not a fitness fanatic, as she considers it more important and has spoken of her opinion of the need to be healthy and happy," said Knightley's lawyer. "The claimant found the suggestions all the more offensive as she has freely admitted publicly in the past that a member of her family suffered from anorexia and she is well aware of the devastating effects eating disorders can have." Knightley was awarded close to $6,000 in damages and plans to match the award with an equal amount and donate the money to a charity that helps people with eating and mental disorders.
Keira Knightley has admitted she thinks about quitting the movie business because the pressure of fame is so intense. "The celebrity thing's completely crazy. I think I just have to move away or give it up altogether," the Pirates of the Caribbean actress told UK Elle mag, adding that she could "just do something else." Knightley revealed that she is fed up with being accused of being anorexic and stresses that she is just "naturally thin."
Keira Knightley is reportedly "furious" that Lindsay Lohan pulled out of the film the pair were set to co-star in. Lohan withdrew from The Best Time of Our Lives due to contract issues three days before the movie was due to begin filming. Knightley is unhappy with the Mean Girls star's decision as she was involved in getting Lohan to appear in the film, for which her mother wrote the screenplay. However, Sienna Miller is now likely to step into the role, according to Variety. Miller and Knightley will play two women fighting for the attention of poet Dylan Thomas.
Keira Knightley has begun legal action against a British paper over allegations the Pirates of the Caribbean star lied about having an eating disorder. An article in the Daily Mail ran a photo and and comments about the actress in a bikini as part of an article about a girl who died of anorexia. Knightley's lawyers are challenging the implication that the actress is in some way responsible for the girl's death as well as claims that Knightley lied about having an eating disorder herself.
